Warstic Baseball - Terracane bat

My most recent shoot with Warstic Baseball went down at their headquarters in Deep Ellum, right on the edge of downtown Dallas. The goal: capture their new bat, the Terracane, in all its glory.

Pretty straightforward—until Warstic casually decided to bring in a few tons of red dirt and dump it into their indoor batting cage. Because why not turn a perfectly clean space into a full-blown baseball infield?

For the shoot, we had Arkansas players—and brothers—Kuhio and Wehiwa Aloy stepping in. These guys made launching baseballs in a dirt-filled cage look effortless… which is great for the photos, slightly less great for the guy standing nearby with a camera.

Now let’s talk about the real challenge: lighting. The space was tight, the dirt was flying, and every light stand felt like it was one foul ball away from retirement. It was basically a high-stakes game of “where can I put this light so it survives the next swing?”

And as you might notice from the behind-the-scenes… I wasn’t about to take any chances. I showed up dressed head-to-toe in catcher’s gear. Not exactly standard photographer attire, but also not a terrible idea when you’re surrounded by elite hitters and zero margin for error.

Somehow, through the chaos, the dust clouds, and my questionable fashion choices, we pulled it off—and came away with some seriously beautiful images.

Moral of the story: if you’re shooting baseball in a confined space, bring lights, bring patience… and maybe bring a helmet.
